Researching and Building a New Blog

Currently, I'm building a new blog as part of my new campaign to build income that only I control. Unlike all my other blogs, I actually did research before I started. Here's my process:

  • My first step was to research keywords related to my blog's subject. I did this using Google's Adwords Keyword Tool. I looked at the keyword's competition, estimated CPC (cost per click) and how often the keyword is searched per month. This gives me an idea of what my readers will be looking for and how much I may make.
  • I brainstormed for a name that is clever, memorable and uses a good keyword.
  • Then I did a web search for names that are similar.
  • After I made sure that the name I chose hadn't been done before.
  • I make sure that the web address is available.
  • If it wasn't available, I started from scratch.
  • The building of the blog happed once I worked out the name and the address. I picked colors, font, ad placement, etc. All of this will probably be changed a hundred times in the coming days.
  • Now I'm designing a logo to make the blog more memorable.

  1. Thank you for checking out my mini series over at my art blog. I love you comment!

In regards at how you went about getting a title for your new blog first by checking to make sure others didn't already had it, I never thought of doing that before. Good tip for sure. However I did do a little bit of researching years ago for my artist name though, at first I was just gonna signed using just AFritz that is until I stumble across another artist who happens to be a German Artist using the same signature name which made me turn purple almost, so then like you I had to go back to the drawing board, I couldn't come up with another artist name cause that has always been my artist name and signature since the early 1970's, so then I gave it much deep thought, and decided to just add a y to to Fritzy instead, and once again I went back to doing the long haul researching and "Bingo! No one out there in the web world has this name and so it had become my new artist signature ever since I first started using the computer back in the mid 1990's.

By some chance does one have to go have some sort an degree in order to become a freelance writer along with cartooning?

  2. Well, I went to Journalism school, though I didn't graduate. ;)I know a lot of freelance writers don't have degrees in Journalism, English or literature and they do just fine.
