What is Remilon?

I know a lot of freelance writers are looking for gigs that are like Demand Media, but have a better editorial department and nicer reputation, while still paying upfront for articles. Remilon is a website that pays upfront for articles and has a great reputation. Here are a few facts about the company:
  • Writers are paid by-the-hour
  • They specialize in education articles
  • Currently, they have over 200 writers
  • Remilon pays twice a month through PayPal
  • They produce around 2,000 articles per month
  • Pay is $8 per hour and up
  • Freelance writers must do 15 hours of work per week
  • A test article is required before acceptance, but you are paid for the test article
  • You have an assigned editor and can freely communicate with the editor
  • The articles are 250-300 words
If you have any questions about this freelance writing job you can email Remilon.

Update:
I recently received this email:

Hello Alina,

I'm writing on behalf of Remilon, the online educational resource you recently profiled on your blog. First off, thanks for showcasing Remilon to your readers. It's a great article but one point was concerning to us because we don't want to confuse prospective applicants: the third bullet point from the bottom is slightly misleading ("A test article is required before acceptance, but you are paid for the test article").

New Remilon content writers aren't paid for the test assignment specifically, but the orientation process as a whole is paid. I'd just like to remove the notion that the test assignment itself is paid so applicants aren't surprised.

Thank you!
Erin Malus

  1. Alina,

I'm really glad I found your blog as I am in need of a bit of advice....well...maybe alot of advice actually. I have been a blogger for quite a few years, but up until now have only been writing for enjoyment and storytelling. I absolutely love to write, it's one of the best outlets for my personality that I have ever found.

I live down here in Costa Rica, just outside of one of the largest tracts of untouched rain forest in the world. I am an American citizen who moved down here in 2006 and have been working from home ever since on technically related jobs. I have always been very good with computers, so remote IT work was the way to go for me.

But just recently I decided to try out freelance writing. The thought of actually generating revenue via something I love so much was really appealing to me. That and my wife and I just had twin girls, so I do need to find other sources of income. Unfortunately in my situation, I can't simply crack open the local want ads down here and hope to get any kind of meaningful employment. I literally have no choice but to work from home.

In the last three weeks I have been writing web content and articles for a woman who recruited me from a forum. She seemed to be a very sweet lady, but now three weeks in I have yet to see a dime despite writing over 300 pieces of unique content to the tune of about 500 words piece. Each time I bring up the fact that I need to be paid, she just deflects my concerns by saying that she has no money either and that I need to finish projects in order to generate revenue. The problem is I have finished about three major projects now and have not been paid a single thing.

I guess my question to you is, does this happen a lot? And if I were to just bail on this person now, should I consider everything that I've written up to this point completely lost and all for nothing? somewhere out there is a website with articles that I have written, and probably will never be compensated for. Is there any way to recoup this loss at all? Is there any action that I can take against this person to prevent her from doing this to anybody else?

I have neglected my very beloved blog in order to meet the deadlines of this woman, and I'm sure my readership will be quite disappointed in me. I am a bit depressed about this tonight, and I'm very glad that I stumbled upon your blog. I will be looking around in your articles hopefully to find resources that will lead me to a right place or a good agency that will actually pay me for my efforts.

I apologize for the wall of text, and I hope this message finds you having a great evening. I would love to hear your take on my situation and how I could possibly dig myself out of it....

    All the best,
    Aaron Gipson

  2. Hi Aaron,
I would inform the lady that, legally, she doesn't own the articles until she purchases them. With large orders it is always best to receive payments throughout the project instead of one lump sum at the end, because, yes, this does happen quite often. I even like to get some form of payment upfront, just in case.
Here are some steps you can take:

    I hope that helps!
