I recently heard that the Content Authority is hiring freelance writers again. I've seen many writers jump at the chance to writer there, so I thought I'd post some facts about the site so that writers can make an infomed decision before putting in their application.
First, writers are payed in tiers:
First, writers are payed in tiers:
- Tier 1 Rate pays $0.007 per word
- Tier 2 Rate pays $0.01 per word
- Tier 3 Rate pays $0.015 per word
- Tier 4 Rate pays $0.030 per word
- Rewrites pay only $0.005 per word
Plus, the site says, "You must have a minimum of $25.00 of approved articles in your account to be paid for the week." At less than a penny for each word, it would take a long time to accumulate $25. Let's see, for a 500 word article, you would make only $3.50. So, assuming they accepted every article, it would take a little more than seven articles just to get paid.
According to some who write there, the site's editors are incredibly picky and reject articles quite a bit. There's a good chance you could write over a dozen articles before reaching payout.
Beginners, let me tell you, YOU CAN AND SHOULD DO BETTER.

Thanks for saying this, Alina. Any decent writer who works for such pitiful rates is undermining not just him/herself, but all writers. We should value our work more than that.
ReplyDeleteI just got demoted from tier 2 to tier 1. There was no warning given. they claimed my sentences were awkward and articles were full of spelling errors.. I ran them through an online grammar check and it found no errors. One had spelling mistake but even expert writers make them. I read similar accounts of unfair demotions with no warnings.
