I am a member of a group of former and current Suite 101 writers on Facebook. I like it because I get to stay in touch with old friends and I get the latest dirt on the Suite 101 beta. I don't spread rumors, so know that everything I'm about to tell you is backed up with links and facts.
It looks like Suite 101 is republishing articles that they told former writers they had deleted. That's right. They are making money from articles they have no right to use.
Also, they are redirecting links from old high-earning articles. This is how it works:
It looks like Suite 101 is republishing articles that they told former writers they had deleted. That's right. They are making money from articles they have no right to use.
Also, they are redirecting links from old high-earning articles. This is how it works:
- You had an article on Suite and you linked to it from your blog.
- Then, you left Suite, and had your articles removed.
- You left the link on your blog because you haven't had time to remove it.
- A reader clicks on the link.
- Instead of being taken to a 404 error page, the reader is taken to a different article on the same subject by a writer who still works at Suite 101.
Basically, Suite is still drinking up your link juice, even though you told them to leave the kitchen.
I haven't found any of this happening with my articles or links, but I have found that doing a search at Suite using my name brings up a list of all my old articles. When you click on the link, it goes to a 404 error page, but I'm still disturbed by it. If anyone looked, they would think I still wrote for the site.
These problems could be caused by black hat SEO, or just incompetent programmers. Either way, if you are a former Suite 101 writer make sure to check your links and articles!

Alina, I love this blog. So much great information. Any ideas on how to find out if my articles have been plagarised would be appreciated. I am still trying to decide if I should leave my articles on Suite; as this is only proof I have that they are my work. Thanks for this great blog. Jel
ReplyDeleteThe best way is to run a few lines of your article through Google search. If someone copied your article the website will show up in the search results. You can also put your article in http://www.dustball.com/cs/plagiarism.checker/? and it will find pages with your content.
